Italy is the first nation in the world with 53 Unesco sites

The 41st session of the World Heritage Committee, which is underway in Krakow, has listed two new sites on the Unesco World Heritage List, leading to 53 the sites in Italy. The latest arrivals are "Faggete vetuste" and "Mura veneziane", and that put Italy in the first place of the nations in the Unesco List, followed by China and then by Spain. These are the "Venetian Defense Works between the 16th and 17th Century: State of the Earth - Western Sea State", a transnational serial site presented in 2016 by Italy together with Croatia and Montenegro to UNESCO in Paris. The site features an extraordinary collection of the most reputable defensive systems of modernity made by the Republic of Venice, designed after the discovery of the shotgun and located along the state of the Earth and the Sea State. "This important result - declares the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Dario Franceschini - confirms Italy's strong and pluriennal commitment to the implementation of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention. A precious work that allows our country to keep the primacy of the number of sites enrolled in the List and play a major role in cultural diplomacy in the international context. " UNESCO in 1972 endorsed the "World Heritage Convention" aimed at the protection of cultural sites and the preservation of nature. 190 States have joined the Convention today; the assets are 1073 distributed in 167 countries around the world.
